Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
In a significant milestone for India’s defence sector, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has delivered three warships to the Indian Navy in a single day, marking a major step forward under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives. The simultaneous induction of ‘Dunagiri’, ‘Sanshodhak’, and ‘Agra’ highlights India’s growing self-reliance in indigenous warship construction.
This is the first time GRSE has successfully built and handed over multiple warships to the Navy at once, demonstrating a substantial improvement in its construction capacity and execution efficiency. With this delivery, the total number of warships built by GRSE has reached 118, out of which 80 have already been commissioned into the Navy.
Among the three vessels, ‘Dunagiri’, built under Project 17A, is an advanced frigate equipped to carry powerful missiles and designed for modern naval combat operations. ‘Sanshodhak’ is a survey vessel that will enhance coastal surveillance and maritime monitoring capabilities, while ‘Agra’ is an Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft specifically designed to detect and neutralize enemy submarines in shallow waters.
Defence experts believe that the addition of these technologically advanced vessels will significantly strengthen India’s maritime security and operational readiness. The development is also seen as a strategic boost amid evolving regional security dynamics, reinforcing India’s naval capabilities in critical waters.
The achievement underscores the success of indigenous manufacturing in defence and reflects the government’s continued push towards reducing dependence on foreign imports. It also positions GRSE as a key contributor to India’s expanding defence infrastructure and global maritime ambitions.
